The Russian River Valley
We farm three estate vineyards in the Russian River Valley, with PInot Noir, Chardonnay, and Zinfandel planted, and we purchase fruit from other family growers in the valley. Regular fog intrusion makes for cool nights, but recedes during the day to allow afternoon warmth to develop rich flavors.

Nurmi Vineyards, at the Winery site on Trenton Road, Pinor Noir and Chardonnay. (Estate) Once the heart of a very large apple growing concern, the property was purchased by Paul & Gail Nurmi in the 1970s, although it would be a couple decades before planting. The vineyard wraps a tall hill, with Chardonnay planted on the north slope near the winery and Pinot Noir on the east and south slopes.

Siebert Ranch, on the East side of the Valley just north of Santa Rosa, Pinot Noir, all Pommard clone. (Estate). The property had been planted in grapes before Prohibition, but subsequently was a chicken farm, dairy, prune orchard, and then sheep ranch, before being replanted by Ken's grandfather, Henry Siebert.

Sonoma Mountain
Above the town of Glen Ellen, looking east across the Valley of the Moon toward Mt. Veeder and the Mayacamas, we farm Bordeaux-type grapes. Here the mountain top protects the vineyard from the marine air, splitting the fog, and creating a sun spot over us while vineyards nearby are still shrouded. Also the nights are warmer, because at our higher elevation site the cool air drains off.

Berger Vineyard, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. (estate). Fred & Carol Berger returned to Fred's family homestead in 1972 and started planting vines in 1973. Adjacent to the Laurel Glen vineyard, both properties were owned by Fred's grandparents. We started farming the vineyard in 2011.
